Dr Vinh Nguyen

Vinh Nguyen, MD

Dr. Vinh Nguyen is a general surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He specializes in fistula creations, graft placements, open thrombectomies, access revisions, dialysis catheter placements and percutaneous angioplasties. Dr. Nguyen treats patients at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL, using the most up-to-date, pain-free techniques to help patients improve their quality of life.

Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He went on to complete his residency in General Surgery at Physicians Carraway Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Nguyen is affiliated with many hospitals including St Vincent’s East, St Vincent’s St Clair and Grandview MC.

Dr. Nguyen is board certified in general surgery.

Dr Tim Williams, Nephrology Vascular Lab

Timothy Williams, MD

Dr. Timothy Williams is an interventional nephrologist specializing in dialysis access management. He treats patients at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Williams was born and raised in Ocean Springs, MS. He attended the US Naval Academy and graduated with a degree in Systems Engineering. He then served in the US Navy for 6 years as a submarine officer, during which he twice deployed to the Atlantic in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following military service, he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL for medical school, graduating magna cum laude. He continued his training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL for an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship. He served as the chief nephrology fellow during his final year of fellowship.

Dr. Williams is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and ASDIN. He is board certified in internal medicine, nephrology and interventional nephrology.

Dr. James Lewis, MD, Interventional Nephrologist at Azura Vascular Care

James Lewis, MD

Dr. James Lewis is an interventional nephrologist specializing in dialysis access management. He treats patients at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Lewis earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN and went on to complete a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Lewis served as an instructor in medicine and assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was involved in basic science and clinical research projects pertaining to the genetics of hypertension and kidney disease as well as coordinate the nephrology fellowship training program.

Dr. Lewis joined Nephrology Associates in 1998. He remains active in the American Society of Nephrology and The American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. Dr. Lewis is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.

Dr. Phillip Madonia, MD, Interventional Nephrologist at Azura Vascular Care

Phillip N. Madonia, MD

Dr. Phillip N. Madonia is an interventional nephrologist specializing in dialysis access management. He treats patients at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Madonia earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Madonia completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Louisiana State University Shreveport in Shreveport, LA where he served as chief resident. Subsequently, he served two years on the academic faculty in Medicine and Pediatrics at LSU, followed by a year as assistant professor of internal medicine in the division of nutrition at William Beaumont School of Medicine in Royal Oak, Michigan. He completed his fellowship in nephrology in 2015 at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Madonia is a member of the American Society of Nephrology Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Madonia is board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, and nephrology. He is also certified by the American Society of diagnostic and interventional nephrology.

Thomas Watson, MD

Dr. Thomas Watson is an interventional nephrologist specializing in dialysis access management. He is the medical director at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Watson received his medical degree at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he was president of his graduating class. He continued his training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital of Cornell University in New York, NY, where he was also honored to serve as assistant chief medical resident. His interests include chronic kidney disease treatment and prevention, hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, acute renal failure, and interventional nephrology—for which he is certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.

Dr. Watson is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the Renal Physicians Association, and the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. He is Board-Certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. John Brouilette, MD, Interventional Nephrologist at Azura Vascular Care

John Brouillette, MD

Dr. John Brouillette is an interventional nephrologist specializing in dialysis access management. He treats patients at Azura Surgery Center Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Brouillette earned his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL, with a year of further training as chief medicine resident for BHS Residency Program. Dr. Brouillette completed a fellowship in nephrology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Upon his return to Birmingham, AL he joined Nephrology Associates, P.C. starting his career as a full-time practicing nephrologist. Since joining the practice, he has become certified in 2003 by the American Society of Diagnostic Interventional Nephrology in performing hemodialysis vascular access procedures. He is a perennial lecturer on kidney disease at medical centers across Birmingham and surrounding communities. He remains active in various clinic research projects using informatics and has published multiple papers in the clinical nephrology literature.

Dr. Brouillette is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, a member of the American College of Physicians, and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
