Dr. Peter B. Hathaway attended the University of Utah, where he completed his degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. While pursuing his degree, he served for over three years as a teaching assistant for the University of Utah Human Anatomy Program under Professor Mark T. Nielsen, where he developed a passion for scholarship and teaching. While in college he also worked as a technician at the Utah Artificial Heart Institute, and then as a certified pulmonary function technician in the blood gas lab at the University of Utah Hospital.
He was accepted to the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he graduated with multiple honors including the Dean’s Award, the Golden Headed Cane Award and membership to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed a transitional internship at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he received the Intern of the Year Award. He subsequently fulfilled a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Washington school of Medicine in Seattle, Washington, where he was Chief Resident.
These efforts led to acceptance to the prestigious Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Missouri, where he completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology. After completion of his fellowship in 1999, he joined Utah Imaging Associates and founded the Utah Vascular Clinic. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Hathaway continues to pursue research and teaching interests, particularly in percutaneous dialysis interventions and the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. He has published numerous articles on dialysis access, and is a nationally recognized thought-leader and speaker in the area of percutaneous peritoneal dialysis catheter placement. He is an active consultant to Merit Medical Systems.
