Leslie Cunningham, MD, is a board-certified vascular surgeon specializing in vascular access creation and dialysis access management, in addition to the minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins and venous disorders. Dr. Cunningham is the medical director at American Access Care Physician, PLLC Suffolk County in Hauppauge, New York.
After graduating cum laude in Psychology from Boston University, Dr. Cunningham entered a combined MD-PhD (Physiology) program at Boston University School of Medicine, from which he graduated as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the Honor Society in Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, followed by fellowship training in vascular surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School program in Boston.
Having completed his medical and surgical training, Dr. Cunningham served as Chief, Division of Vascular Surgery, at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as on the hospital’s board of directors. He left the Navy service after nearly ten years, having attained the rank of Commander.
He has held academic appointments with Dartmouth Medical School, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and is the author and co-author of numerous articles, book chapters, abstracts and presentations in vascular physiology and surgery. He specializes in the care of patients with vascular disease in addition to the creation and maintenance of accesses for hemodialysis.
Dr. Cunningham is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and is board certified in vascular surgery.
